Lee Valley began their campaign in Blarney on May 9 when they beat Bandon GC 3/2 and then in the afternoon they beat Kinsale GC 4/1. The following day they secured a place in the Cork Area Final by beating Blarney GC 3/2.

They met Mahon GC in the Cork Area Final at Water Rock on May 21 and carved out a well-deserved victory of 3/2 much to the delight of Captain Pat Mullins and the many club supporters who were present on the evening.

The panel consists of Declan Ryan (6), John O’Gorman (7), Brian O’Callaghan   (7), Frank Hynes (8), Jason Ryan (8), Brian Lacey (8), Brendan McCarthy (8), Michael Crowley (9), Peter O’Connell (9), Tim Cullinane (9), Kevin O’Donovan (9), Noel O’Shaughnessy (10), Andrew Jordan (10), Shane O’Donnell (12) and Kevin Doyle (12).

Team manager is Alan Cashman and assistant managers are Jim Hayes and Philip Browne (who, incidentally, played for Lee Valley when they last got to the Munster finals of the Bruen Shield in 2003).

A Spectacular Golf Course in Co. Cork

Lee Valley Golf Club is an 18-hole Championship Golf Course designed by Ryder Cup Legend Christy O’Connor Jnr and calls the spectacular setting of Lee Valley in County Cork its home. The facility was officially opened by Christy and former US Masters Champion Fred Couples.

This Cork golf course is unique in design, with a Parklands-type setting that demands the skills required to complete a Links course because of ever-changing local wind conditions. The course affords the higher handicapper an enjoyable day’s golf while offering a stern test to anyone looking to break par. Water is a prime feature on seven holes and the greens are arguably the best in Cork.

The first hole, from a raised tee, highlights the majestic views and surroundings more than any other on the course. The par 72, 6700-yard layout packs a real punch so it’s important not to get too distracted by the scenery, and correct club selection and ball placement are paramount.

Lee Valley Golf & Country Club has the proud distinction of being included in the Golf Digest‘s Top 100 Irish golf courses on no less than three occasions.
